We have had a number enquiries from people wanting to buy our kits and raw materials so they can sell the products made from them alongside their cards at markets etc.

The intention of the kits was to introduce people to this wonderful hobby / craft and show just how much fun and easy it is to produce soapy gifts that you can give or keep alongside your cards, gift bags or boxes.

If you are buying the kit with the intention of learning how to make soap to sell then this is a whole different ball game - wouldn't you know :-)

The cosmetic / beauty / toiletry industry whether it be handmade by the likes of you & me, or mass produced like L'Oreal, is very tightly legislated. From the contents of the container to the label on the product everything must follow strict EU regulations.

You cannot sell the soaps & bath bombs that you make from these kits unless you have been certified by an appropriate commercial chemist.

It is not impossible to become "certified" as it is known, but there are essential hoops to jump through, learning curves to negotiate, some financial outlay and procedures to follow.

For those of you who are put off by all of this, if you still want to add soaps & bath products to your offering, buy don't make. Buying soaps and bath products from established suppliers - always always ask by email if a supplier is certified and get the confirmation of this in an email and keep it, this will protect you should anything go wrong. When I first started out I bought soap from a number of suppliers all but one of whom were clearly certified and the other one had worded the details to imply certification, this wasn't clear to me until I started my own certification process. So be vigilant. Most people will do wholesale orders so you will be able to buy cheaper than the displayed retail prices. For an example look at my website, I offer retail pages showing individual bars of soaps customers can buy or I have a wholesale page where you can buy in bulk or a minimum of a Kilo (roughly 10 pieces).

If you, like me, have discovered you have a burning passion for making these products and are still keen to go down the certification route, then email me and I will help you.

If it has put you off completely, then my advice is to try candle making instead. I do do a container soy candle making kit with which you can make lovely votives and tealights, combine them with an organza bag and you have a lovely gift. Candles don't have any of the legislation attached to then that cosmetic / beauty / toiletry products do. They are as quick and easy to make as the soap and smell just as good :-) Soy wax is 100% natural and sustainable, made from soya beans it does not give off the petro carbons that paraffin candles do when burning.
